SERDANG, UPM – The Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Infaq (WAZAN), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has implemented the WAZAN Cakna initiative as a demonstration of care for the welfare of UPM staff who fall under the asnaf category.

This program aims to support and help alleviate the financial burdens of staff in need through targeted zakat assistance. A total of 50 eligible family members received aid, including financial support and basic necessities. This approach not only provides material support but also reflects UPM’s commitment to the well-being of its employees.

According to WAZAN, the implementation of WAZAN Cakna aligns with the principles of zakat management, emphasizing fairness, transparency, and effective distribution to those who are truly eligible. This initiative also reflects WAZAN’s continuous efforts to ensure that zakat funds are optimally utilized for the welfare of asnaf within the campus community.

Recipients of the assistance expressed gratitude and appreciation for the care shown, which helped ease financial pressures amid the current cost-of-living challenges. Such programs also strengthen the sense of togetherness and familial spirit among UPM staff.

WAZAN hopes that the WAZAN Cakna initiative will continue from time to time as a platform to cultivate a culture of care, empathy, and mutual support, while reinforcing the role of zakat as an instrument for welfare and community well-being.
