WAZAN UPM EMPOWERS UPM BINTULU CAMPUS (UPMKB) MOSQUE FACILITIES THROUGH 2025 WAQF FUNDS

BINTULU – The Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowment (WAZAN), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) continues to spread its wings of contribution to the Land of the Hornbills by channeling dedicated waqf (endowment) funds for facility upgrade projects at the UPM Bintulu Campus (UPMKB) Mosque.

This large-scale initiative for the year 2025 is implemented to ensure the main worship and spiritual development centre at the Sarawak branch campus is of high capacity, conducive, and congregation-friendly, in line with the increasing number of students.

Focus on Mosque Infrastructure Upgrades

Through the allocation of waqf funds resulting from contributions by the campus community, alumni, and the general public, WAZAN UPM has focused its assistance on several critical aspects for the comfort of the congregation. Among the upgraded facilities are:

Installation of New Carpets: Replacing the old carpets in the main prayer hall to ensure the comfort of students and the congregation when performing obligatory and sunnah prayers.

High-Tech Public Address (PA) System: Improving audio clarity inside and outside the prayer hall, thereby smoothing the delivery of Friday sermons and religious lecture programs.

Upgrading the Ventilation System: The addition of air-conditioning units and industrial fans to cool the prayer space, especially during the organization of large-scale events involving the local Bintulu community.

Equitable Distribution of Waqf Funds

The Director of WAZAN UPM, in a statement, said that channeling the waqf assistance to UPMKB is proof of the university management's commitment to ensuring that every contribution received is distributed equitably, covering the main campus in Serdang as well as the branch campus in Bintulu.

"The UPMKB Mosque is not just a place for prayer; it also functions as the pulse of community unity, a student activity centre, and a landmark of campus harmony. We hope that these upgraded facilities can be fully enlivened by the campus community and the local congregation," he explained.

Positive Impact on the Bintulu Campus Community

Meanwhile, the Campus Director of UPMKB welcomed the contribution and continuous support from WAZAN UPM. He described this brand-new infrastructure as highly meaningful, especially in preparation for receiving new student intakes for the 2025/2026 academic session.

"This facility contribution not only provides physical comfort but also injects enthusiasm among students to remain active in spiritual and volunteer programs organized by the campus Islamic Centre," he added.

WAZAN UPM continues to urge the entire community and corporate citizens to continue contributing to waqf through the UPM Knowledge Waqf Fund (Dana Wakaf Ilmu) campaign so that more educational and spiritual infrastructures nationwide can be developed sustainably.
