UPM CHAIRS THE MAWEZ MEETING AT UPM SARAWAK

BINTULU – Universiti Putra Malaysia Sarawak (UPMS) hosted the 2nd Meeting of the Public Universities’ Wakaf, Endowment and Zakat Council (Majlis Wakaf, Endowmen dan Zakat Universiti Awam - MAWEZ) (No. 1/2026), chaired by the Centre for Management of Wakaf, Zakat and Infak (WAZAN) Universiti Putra Malaysia as the chair of MAWEZ for the 2024–2027 term.

This first meeting of 2026 was attended by Directors, Heads, and representatives managing wakaf, zakat, endowment, and infak funds across 20 Public Universities (Universiti Awam - UA) in Malaysia.

The meeting aimed to strengthen the importance of third-source funding in public universities and reinforce the universities' role in mobilizing funds to help sustain institutional finances in higher education.

Hosting the MAWEZ meeting at UPMS directly showcased the unique identity of UPMS in the Borneo region to all attending university delegates.

MAWEZ across all public universities serves as a strategic platform for collecting wakaf, endowment, and zakat funds. The council's establishment aligns with the 2023 Mandate of the Minister of Higher Education to ensure universities function effectively through funds, wakaf, endowment, infak, and all forms of contributions, both material and non-material.
