WAQF: THE CONTINUOUS CHARITY THAT FLOWS ENDLESSLY

In Islamic teachings, waqf is the highest manifestation of generosity that offers extraordinary divine rewards. Aligning with the theme "Waqf: The Continuous Charity That Flows Endlessly," it refers to a form of almsgiving whose benefits remain perpetual. Narrated by Abu Hurairah RA, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stated that when a person dies, all their deeds come to an end except for three: continuous charity (sadaqah jariyah / waqf), beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them.

The Concept of Preserved Benefits

The primary difference between waqf and regular charity lies in the preservation of the asset's physical form or value. When you donate food, the benefit ends once it is consumed. However, when you contribute to waqf—such as funding the construction of a building, purchasing medical equipment, or sponsoring an educational fund—the principal asset is locked and preserved. Only the yield or utility generated from it is distributed to those in need. This profound concept ensures that the donor's spiritual rewards continue to flow into their hereafter account every single day, for as long as the asset is utilized.

Trans-generational Impact

The magnificence of this continuous charity can be seen through its trans-generational impact. A waqf well dug today may continue to provide water to thousands of humans for decades. Similarly, in institutions like UPM, the waqf funds contributed by the public today will finance learning equipment and produce thousands of brilliant graduates in the future. They are the ones who will bring prosperity to the nation, and the goodness of their efforts will continuously generate spiritual rewards for the waqf donors.

In conclusion, waqf is the smartest investment for the hereafter. It is a profound testament to our love for the Creator and our care for humanity. Make waqf a habitual practice, because every dollar endowed today is a river of blessings that will flow endlessly for us in eternity.
