WAKAF ILMU DEVELOPMENT PROJECT: WAKAF SURAU AT SULTAN ABDUL SAMAD LIBRARY (PSAS) UPM & RESTORATION OF DEWAN AL-KHAWARIZMI, UNIVERSITY ISLAMIC CENTRE (PIU) UPM
On April 30, 2026, the Wakaf Surau project at the Sultan Abdul Samad Library (Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad - PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), was implemented through the distribution of wakaf funds by the Centre for Management of Wakaf, Zakat and Infak (WAZAN) UPM.
This initiative serves as a positive step towards creating a designated prayer space for the UPM campus community who are at the library to revise, research academic materials, and conduct related activities, while simultaneously supporting the principle of sustainability for religious institutions through the dissemination of knowledge.
The role of this wakaf surau is not only to foster the spirit of being a good Muslim, but also to serve as a bridge connecting spiritual needs with contemporary academic demands.
Secondly, the restoration project of Dewan al-Khawarizmi at the University Islamic Centre (Pusat Islam Universiti - PIU), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), was carried out through WAZAN UPM’s wakaf distribution on February 11, 2026.
This wakaf project was an initiative to restore and create a comfortable environment within the hall for the UPM campus community to organize religious and academic programs.
The enhancement of Dewan al-Khawarizmi benefits not only UPM residents but also provides facilities for the surrounding communities in Seri Serdang and Seri Kembangan to host various knowledge-sharing events, thereby elevating UPM’s visibility to a class of its own.
This demonstrates how the concept of wakaf contributed by YBhg. Dato’/Datin/Prof./Dr./sir/madam is realized as a physical facility, creating a conducive environment for both dawah and academic needs of the UPM campus community.
