As in the minds of the people when talking about waqf that it is only involves about the surrender of the property of the land to be used as a mosque and burial ground. On the contrary, other major agendas can be developed by the ummah if the scope of the waqf is fully developed, especially in helping the asnaf or less fortunate of Muslim community.

Although the waqf means a standstill, but it does not mean that the possessed property is stopped and should not be used in the path of Allah. The practice of waqf should be used to increase the income of the ummah or at least beneficial to be administered by the party in charge of the property.

In fact, the outcome of a waqf asset can be used for fundraising purposes in war, education as well as in the field of health as practiced by SAW's companions. Similarly in generating income of the ummah and donated to the asnaf who need the proper assistance to continue their daily lives.

Do Not Limit the Potential of Waqf

Director of the Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowmen(WAZAN), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Dr. Razali Othman said that, the community should not trap the mind with the meaning of a narrow wakaf ie just a graveyard, construction of a mosque or surau only.

While many other benefits can be triggered by the practice of a waqf and contributing to the Muslims as a successful community. Imam Abu Zahrah's waqf interpretation is "any contribution that can be used for the benefit of the public". When an act of waqf is agreed upon by the giver/donor, then the full possession of the possessed property belongs to Allah SWT.

"Waqf assets are absolutely non-transferable because they belong to Allah, but the proceeds from the assets can be used. For example, the proceeds of the waqf land can be used to generate the income of the ummah and help the disadvantaged, "he said.

Waqf is able to create a responsible Islamic community and create a harmonious atmosphere among the people when the auxiliary culture helps to flourish.

It is very pleasing if waqf practices are implemented, even the disadvantages of society can be overcome through the endowed waqf results. The waqf members will be pleased to be able to fulfill their responsibilities to help the unfortunate, while those who benefit from the practice feel the defense of the other Muslim brothers.
