‘REMDII Sensitive’ Help Recover Eczema Disease

The product which is a natural ultra-moisturizing cream based on the full spectrum of vitamin E from the steroid-free palm oil extract is known as REMDII Sensitive.

This product is formulated with olein extract from the red palm (RPO), rich in tocopherol, tocotrienol and carotenoids which are the main ingredients of skin care formulations.

A group of researchers from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) successfully developed a steroid-free product for the treatment of skin or eczema, which can reduce skin irritation and exfoliation and can treat skin condition in just two weeks.

Eczema is a disease that can infect individuals of different ages, especially children due to inflammation, dehydration, skin redness and pus from old wounds. Until now, no effective antidote is successfully produced.

Prof. Dr. Lai Oi Ming from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences who led the research said REMDII Sensitive was developed without the element of durable material and contained anti-inflammatory nanostructures capable of penetrating the dermis of the skin to stimulate recovery.

She said that their research showed that most of the emollients, the ingredients used to prevent or reduce dehydration as a protection for the skin, sold for eczema relief, did not contain active ingredients, but had a lot of synthetic chemicals, preservatives and cheap ingredients base that may cause side effects.

Prof. Dr Lai berkata, biasanya terdapat dua pendekatan untuk merawat ekzema iaitu penggunaan steroid bagi mengurangkan kesan eksema, diikuti dengan krim emolien atau pelembap yang baik.

Prof. Dr Lai said there are usually two approaches to treating eczema, the use of steroids to reduce eczema effects, followed by emollient cream or good moisturizer.

"Our solutions and alternatives to topical steroids are REMDII Sensitive, an internal moisturizing cream formulated with a vitamin E spectrum supplemented by other ingredients in a balanced mix to repair problematic skin without the use of steroids.

"Tocopherol and tocotrienol have been clinically proven to reduce the hives and burns quickly and effectively through anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory action," she said.

In addition, she said, allantoin and hyaluronic acid in the formulation were able to provide a major physiological lipid and a strong hydration power to restore the infected skin area to its original state.

"Pre-clinical data show that REMDII's formulations successfully reduce the irritation, peeling and effectively repairing atopic dermatitis conditions in just two weeks," he said, adding that REMDII Sensitive will also meet the needs of halal product in the market.

She said that the research started in January 2014 and ended April 2016, and REMDII Sensitive was patented. However, clinical trials are still ongoing to improve product quality.

The product was commercialized through Lipidware Sdn Bhd company. At the event, the exchange of documents on licensing agreements and exchange of memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between Lipidware and the Human Life Advancement Foundation (HLAF) for marketing the product to West Asia were also held. - TribunPutra UPM
