WAZAN UPM DISTRIBUTES LARGE-SCALE ZAKAT ASSISTANCE FOR ASNAF DEVELOPMENT THROUGHOUT RAMADAN 2026

SERDANG – Embracing the blessings of the holy month of Ramadan, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) through the Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Infaq (WAZAN) is actively channeling various zakat assistance initiatives focusing on the holistic development of asnaf students at UPM.

The distribution of zakat throughout this glorious month aims not only to alleviate daily financial burdens but is also specifically designed to empower the educational continuity and socioeconomic aspects of the needy groups on campus.

Main Focus of Asnaf Development Assistance

To ensure the zakat funds provide a long-term impact, WAZAN UPM has organized several strategic distribution schemes throughout Ramadan this year. These initiatives include:

 Living Allowance and Educational Assistance Scheme: Channeling funds for students' living expenses as well as laptop device assistance so that the asnaf's learning focus is not compromised.

 Ramadan & Syawal Special Assistance: Provision of special cash assistance to asnaf students to help them prepare essentials for celebrating Eid al-Fitr (Aidilfitri).

 Student Iftar Contribution: Sponsorship of free daily break-fast meals at the UPM Mosque, benefiting thousands of students residing in residential colleges.

Long-Term Empowerment Objectives

The Director of WAZAN UPM, in his statement, emphasized that the month of Ramadan is the best opportunity to optimize the collection and distribution of funds to educate asnaf to become more independent.

"The main focus of WAZAN UPM in 2026 is not merely to provide 'one-off' assistance, but to ensure that the entrusted zakat money is used as an instrument for human capital development. Our primary goal is to produce excellent graduates capable of changing their families' fortunes, thereby transitioning their status from zakat recipients to zakat payers in the future," he explained.

The UPM management also expressed immense gratitude to the staff members, alumni, corporate bodies, and the general public who constantly make WAZAN UPM their preferred zakat payment channel.
