UPM HOLDINGS PAYS BUSINESS ZAKAT TO WAZAN UPM AT IFTAR CEREMONY WITH THE SULTAN OF SELANGOR

SERDANG – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), through the Waqf, Zakat and Endowment Management Centre (WAZAN), received a business zakat payment from UPM Holdings amounting to RM80,000.00 to support the sustainability of welfare for asnaf students at UPM.

This meaningful zakat handover was completed in conjunction with the Iftar (Breaking of Fast) Ceremony with His Royal Highness (HRH) the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, in conjunction with the month of Ramadan 1447H at the UPM Mosque, near here.

The mock cheque for the business zakat was presented by the Chairman of UPM Holdings, YBhg. Dato' Dr. Mohd Fauzi Ramlan, to His Royal Highness (HRH) the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, and was witnessed by the Vice-Chancellor of UPM.

During the same ceremony, HRH the Sultan of Selangor also graciously broke his fast with over 2,000 campus citizens and local community members, in addition to performing the congregational Maghrib, Isha', and sunnah Tarawih prayers.

Empowering the Economy of Asnaf Students

This business zakat payment by UPM Holdings is part of the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) and its obligation to purify its business wealth, while also ensuring that a portion of the company's profits is returned to the UPM community in need.

WAZAN UPM, in a statement, said that the received business zakat funds will be managed transparently and effectively through various educational and living assistance schemes for students.

"The business zakat channelled by UPM Holdings today will have a direct impact on the educational continuity of the asnaf group at UPM, particularly in providing tuition fee assistance, living allowance assistance, and other aids for academic purposes," the statement explained.

Contributions for the Asnaf

The arrival of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor to the ceremony was not only to grace the event and witness the handover of the corporate zakat, but His Royal Highness also graciously presented personal contributions and Hari Raya aid to UPM's asnaf students.

Through strategic zakat handovers by entities like UPM Holdings, UPM hopes that more corporate companies, especially industry partners and university-linked companies, will step forward to fulfill their business zakat obligations through WAZAN UPM for the continuity of the national education empowerment agenda.
