The Zakat Fund is managed by Section of Zakat Management and Asnaf Development, Centre for Management of Waqf, Zakat and Endowment (WAZAN), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Zakat Management at UPM adopted the Amil Assistant Appointment Agreement between UPM and the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) regarding to the collection and distribution of zakat. The main task is to pick up and collect zakat from UPM staff through salary deductions and subsequently distributing those fund returned by LZS to authorized asnaf.
In addition, this section is also develop to manage and utilize the collection potential and distribute zakat funds efficiently, effectively and in good quality based on good values, in line with Islamic law to achieve the balance and welfare of UPM staff.
The Zakat Fund UPM has performed the zakat distribution allocated based on the agreement between UPM and LZS where UPM is only allowed to distribute the zakat only five of eight asnaf as follows:
Fakir
Poor
Muallaf
Fisabilillah
Ibnu Sabil
To implement the Zakat Fund, there are several committees appointed to realize the planned objectives.
