Forms of Zakat Distribution for the ‘Asnaf’ through Capital Relief and Achievements of ‘Asnaf’ Entrepreneurs in Malaysia: An Empirical Study
Capital relief is one of the forms of aid channelled by zakat agencies in Malaysia to help the ‘Asnaf’ to be involved in the business world in assisting on changing their lives to be better than before.
However, there are several issues that arise such as fraud on the aid given, failure of ‘Asnaf’ entrepreneurs in business, as well as insufficient funds for capital. Therefore, this study aims to identify the forms of capital assistance provided by zakat institutions as well as to identify the extent to which the capital assistance is helping ‘Asnaf’ in business.
This study has used a qualitative method which was conducted on a total of 12 asnaf informants and 5 zakat officials. The themes resulting from the first question related to the form of business capital assistance are skills assistance, equipment assistance and financial assistance. While the theme resulting from the second question, consists of categories such as the achievement of zakat distribution assistance, the possibility to be considered as someone who no longer belongs in the ‘Asnaf’ class, and the possibility in becoming a zakat payer.
Overall, the findings show that the research conducted is satisfactory but needs to be improved in terms of business and management capital assistance. Researchers hope that the research conducted can help zakat institutions in improving the distribution of zakat to the ‘Asnaf’ group as well as improving the lives of the ‘Asnaf’.
