INTRODUCTION

The dedication tradition in UPM's land has evolved for so long, covering all major areas and core activities of the university, such as education and research, social services and volunteers; either by donating money and property; contributing ideas, time and energy; sharing knowledge and expertise; etc.

The "Berilmu Berbakti" in UPM was nourished with several philanthropic instruments through donation-based funding sectors such as donations, gifts, alms, zakat, waqf and others.

The establishment of Freeshop is a continuation and additional hierarchy in empowering the devotional culture which not only serves as a welfare mechanism to help the needy, but more importantly is the claim of the caliph in governing and prospering the trust of Allah SWT.

BACKGROUND

Freeshop was officially established on July 1, 2015 (Wednesday) equivalent to 14 Ramadan 1436H as support activities to the major services of zakat, waqf, donations and endowments which were then placed under the responsibility of the UPM Bursar's Office of Zakat, Endowments and Endowments (BZWE).

Freeshop's primary function is to accept whatever new or used goods contribution from anyone, to be used by those who need it. No fees or charges apply. Everything is free and voluntarily.

On October 1, 2016, Freeshop was rebranded as Freeshop WAZAN (FSW) in line with the enforcement of UPM's Center Management Waqf, Zakat and Endowment (WAZAN) under the UPM Vice Chancellor's Office.

OBJECTIVE

Among the main goals of FSW are: -

  • Become a one-stop center that serves as a major organizer, intermediaries and facilitators to devotional practices and volunteers in UPM;
  • Nurturing opportunities for all level of society to contribute anything that benefits the charity; and
  • Help target groups to be organized and effective in meeting their every need.

FREESHOP WAZAN VOLUNTEERS

In the early stages, more donations were received in the form of clothing and reading materials. Within a short time, Freeshop began to receive contributions in various other forms such as shoes and bags; various baby needs and school needs, stationery; dry foods such as instant noodles, breads and biscuits; children's games and more; besides receiving donation of patient aids such as wheelchairs, wand and toilet to paralyzed patients, electrical appliances, electronics and furniture; in addition to the contribution of kitchen items and cash donations.

Many items have changed hands and lots of stuff that have not been done, but the public visit, especially the students, the staff and the surrounding communities to get their needs are also increasing.
